The BET Awards were a feast for the eyes this year, and of course, the fashion was a major highlight! While I was checking out all the wrist action on the night, it was Sexyy Red's Rolex-adorned heels that truly stole the show. Turns out, NBA baller Ms. Angel Reese is also a fan of this trend, recently spotted rocking upcycled watch boots by designer Bysonn.

But here's the thing: this eye-catching style isn't brand new. Believe it or not, watch-inspired heels debuted on the runway all the way back in 2018! A collaboration between Italian shoe designer Giuseppe Zanotti and British designer Christian Cowan gave birth to a capsule collection featuring Rolex-inspired watches on high heels.

These bold beauties quickly gained traction, catching the eye of celebrities like Cardi B, who rocked the shoes and a full watch-themed look in her "Money" music video that same year. The initial success led to variations in silver, black, and even a neon green for an extra dose of edge in 2019. While the initial price tag hovered around $2,000, you might still find some pre-loved treasures on consignment sites.

Fast forward to 2023, and actress Julia Fox took the trend in a whole new direction. Attending a jewelry event, she donned a head-to-toe Hodakova outfit that truly stole the show. Her sandals, also by Hodakova, were crafted from upcycled wristwatches! This Swedish designer, known for her sustainable design philosophy, has created entire lines of clothing and accessories from unexpected materials like old spoons, belts, and of course, watches.

Julia's shoes featured sleek black leather straps adorned with spiky silver watch parts. This eco-friendly take on the watch-inspired trend proved that the style has staying power, with a focus on innovative and sustainable design.

And it seems like watch heels are here to stay! With celebrities like NBA baller Ms. Angel Reese and singer Sexyy Red recently spotted rocking their own versions, each adding their unique flair to this captivating style. So, is the watch heel a fashion revolution or a passing fad? Only time will tell. But one thing's for sure: this trend is making a bold statement on the red carpet and beyond.
