14 Year Old Invents Watch That Detects Strokes

High schooler, Naya Ellis has invented a stroke-detecting wrist watch. The watch is called WingItt and it detects strokes by measuring heartbeat and nerve impulses.

The teenager from New Orleans’ invention was first inspired by her own experiences of caring for her mother during a health battle and motivated by a desire to address real-world health issues. Initially intrigued by the idea of detecting seizures, Naya later shifted her focus to stroke detection. It also aligns with her personal experiences as her grandmother suffered from a stroke.

She won a national competition and will present her invention at the National STEM Festival. In addition to becoming an inventor, Naya also aspires to be an obstetrician-gynecologist.
