A peek into Gruen Watches

Discovering watches and brands from back in the day is a new favorite hobby.

Here’s Khandi Alexander, aka Sissy (and later Mama Olivia Pope in Scandal), in the 90s film CB4 wearing what looks like a Gruen Gold Nugget timepiece. This could be something totally different given the diamond bezel and date complication, but I’d never heard of Gruen before.

Gruen was an American brand based out of Cincinnati Ohio and founded in 1894. It quickly became one of the leading watch manufacturers in the United States. Gruen watches were known for their high quality, innovative designs, and affordable prices.

Gruen watches ceased production in the 1970s, but they remain popular among collectors and enthusiasts today. Vintage Gruen watches can be found in a variety of styles and conditions, and they can range in price from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars.
