Italian Watch Brands: Grimoldi

Today’s throwback is inspired by this Vibe Magazine shoot from 2003. The piece on the model’s wrist is Grimoldi, an Italian watch brand founded in 1964.

Vibe Magazine, 2003

Grimoldi watches were popular in hip-hop fashion in the 2000s. The brand's bold and unisex designs were perfect for music videos and red carpet appearances. Everyone from Russell Simmons to Mike Tyson rocked these watches.

One of the most popular models is the Gran Tipo Ovale: Big Type Oval. The G.T.O watch is a fusion of two icons: The 1970s Grimoldi Borgonovo watch designed by Giorgio Grimoldi, the son of the founder and the legendary Ferrari 250 GTO, the most valuable collector car in the world. Grimoldi watches are still popular today, but they are no longer as ubiquitous as they were in the 2000s. However, they remain an iconic piece of hip-hop history, and they are sure to continue to be coveted by collectors and fans alike.
